The Victorian Players will stage the first musical in its history with "The Fantasticks."
The Tom Jones / Harvey Schmidt show starts a three-weekend run on Friday, which is 53rd anniversary of the show's original New York opening at the Sullivan Street Playhouse. It went on to enjoy a 42-year run Off-Broadway before closing in 2002 after more than 17,000 performances.
The musical tells the story of two young lovers, played by Nathan Pecchia and Sarah Puhala, but a feud between their fathers threatens their romance.
J.E. Ballantyne Jr. is directing the production with musical direction by Ed Phillips. The rest of the cast includes Tom Kusiowski, Brian Lee, Tom Gent, Vinnie Dragos, Ed Vostrand and Ballantyne.
"The Fantasticks" will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through May 19 at the Victorian Players, 702 Mahoning Ave., Youngs-town. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens and can be reserved by calling 330-746-5455.
