COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Gaming Commission could have an answer within hours regarding Penn National Gaming's attempt to build the Hollywood Slots at Mahoning Valley Racecourse in Austintown.
The commission and Penn National representatives are scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. The commission is expected to make a decision during the meeting.
The commission rejected previous plans, citing too few indoor seats and an inadequate number of horse stalls. Penn National presented a third proposal during a tense meeting last week.
Work on the $125 million racino, near the Route 80 interchange at Route 46, stopped when the commission rejected the plan. Construction on the racino, which is expected to bring about 1,000 jobs, could begin with days after a favorable decision.
Tribtoday.com will post updates on the meeting this morning. A full story will appear in Thursday's print edition of the Tribune Chronicle.
