NORTH BLOOMFIELD - Robert Edward Munroe Jr., 81, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 6, 1931, in Warren, the son of the late Robert E. and Anna Laura Moore Munroe.
He married the love of his life, Shirley Anne Patchin Munroe, on Jan. 28, 1952, and they have been happily married for 61 years.
Mr. Munroe was employed as a crane operator with Republic Steel for 35 years. He was a vice president of Steelworkers Local 1375 and served as the grievance committee chairman. Robert was a member of the Colebrook U.M. Church and the Cortland Masonic Lodge. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Korean War as as a 2nd class petty officer. His specialty was boiler technician aboard the USS Juneau. Robert enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques, woodworking and camping and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Loving memories of Robert will be carried on by his loving wife, Shirley Patchin Munroe of North Bloomfield; three sons, Robert J. (Lauri) Munroe of Southington, Terrence L. (Wendy) Munroe of Champion and Jamie E. (Christine) Munroe of Southington; two daughters, Deborah A. (James) Bacorn of Bristolville and Lori M. (Tom) Ellsworth of North Bloomfield; three brothers, Butch Cox, Jay Cox and Robin Cox, all of Michigan; a sister, Becky; 24 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Edward; and a grandson, Chad C. Brunstetter.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Pastor Lauri Evinski will officiate. Family and friends are kindly invited to visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Robert will be laid to rest in Sager Memorial Cemetery in Bristolville, where military honors will be observed.
