SOUTHINGTON - Eugene L. "Gene" Wagner, 66, died Thursday, April 18, 2013.
He was born, in Bristolville, on Aug. 9, 1946, to Duerelle "Bud" Wagner and Mildred A. Easton Papale.
Gene worked on a farm in western Pennsylvania in the late '50s and early '60s for five or six years. When he returned to Ohio, he worked in the logging industry with Chuck Mansfield. He also did cross-country hauling for several years.
He then moved to Phoenix, where he worked as a heavy equipment repairman. Following his brother's invitation, he join Machinex Corp. where he did service work on Hitachi Seiki machine tools for 10 years.
He returned to Ohio in 2002 to take care of his mother until her passing in 2008. He enjoyed gardening, especially flowers and roses. He enjoyed fishing in his earlier years, as well as showing horses and the many horse-pulling contests at many county fairs in northeast Ohio.
The past one-and-a-half years were spent doing what made him the happiest, visiting with the Krieg family at their farm in Colebrook.
He is survived by daughter, Ann W. (Michael) Prather; grandson, Drake; siblings, Leroy Krieg of Phoenix, Ariz., Eileen Fetz of Minnesota, Roger Krieg and Martha Burger, both of Warren, and Diane Longstreph of Cortland; and various nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
He will be missed by friends and family in Ohio as well as Phoenix.
A memorial service will be held at noon May 11 at the Methodist Church in Colebrook, with a luncheon to follow at the church hall next door.
