CORTLAND - Marie J. Turner, 87, died Monday evening, April 15, 2013, at the Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren following an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 14, 1926, in Altoona, Pa., the daughter of the late Frank H. and Sylvia E. Anderson Hoffman.
Ms. Turner graduated from Altoona High School and would go on to work for the former Sylvania Electric Plant, which is now Phillips Electric in Altoona, retiring in 1984 after 33 years of service working as a monitor. She loved planting flowers and working in the yard. Marie was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star in Altoona and a life member of the Historical Village Association of Trumbull County.
She will be sadly missed by her son, Richard M. (Susan) Turner of Cortland; two grandchildren, Jason M. Turner and Laura E. Wiencek, both of Cortland; two great-grandchildren, Darren Mackenzie Coast and William Sean Vernam, both of Cortland, extended family,
and her nieces and nephews.
Other than her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Hoffman; and two sisters, Cleo Etnier and Shirley Blanchard.
Private funeral arrangements were handled by the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel of Lane Family Funeral Homes, and she will be laid to rest in Dugan Cemetery in Fowler.
