Fri., 11:54am: $2 million bond set for Warren Twp. murder suspect

April 12, 2013
Tribune Chronicle |

WARREN A 20-year-old Warren man was being held in lieu of $2 bond after pleading not guilty Friday morning to charges of aggravated murder in connection with the stabbing death of a Warren Township man.

The high bond is based on how Heltzel fled the state after the murder.

Patrick Lawson Heltzel of 3230 Atlantic St., who waived extradition and was returned from Greensboro, N.C., will appear at an initial pre-trial April 23 before Common Pleas Judge Andrew Logan. He was indicted in a special report to a Trumbull County grand jury this morning.

Police and prosecutors said Heltzel fled to North Carolina in his father's car and confessed there to his mother in the murder of Milton A. Grumbling III, 71, who was found stabbed to death April 4 inside his Kincaid East Road home.

Heltzel was arrested in the Greensboro area the next day. He also faces charges of aggravated robbery.
