WARREN A 33-year-old nurse from Howland pleaded not guilty today to a 48-count indictment that accuses her of stealing painkillers while on the job at Hillside Hospital.
Misty Young, 3889 Southwinds Drive S.E., was free on $5,000 bond pending a pre-trial April 11 before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Ronald Rice.
Young, a registered nurse, was arrested on the secret indictment that alleges four counts of deception to obtain dangerous drugs, 20 counts of theft of drugs, and 21 counts of illegal processing of drug documents. The charges are all fourth- or fifth-degree felonies that carry prison time of up to 18 months.
The woman also would be eligible for probation because she has no prior criminal record and no charges are violent felonies.
A prosecutor said Young started working at Hillside in April 2012, and the indictments said drugs were found missing between June and October 2012.
The variety of painkillers included Percocet and Vicodin.
Prosecutors said charges were the result of a joint investigation between Howland police, Trumbull-Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force and Ohio's Boards of Nursing and Pharmacy.
