GIRARD - Girard's Neco Maderitz threw 11 strikeouts and baffled the McDonald hitters on Monday - throwing the first perfect game in the school's history in a 14-0 victory.
The Indians pitcher didn't allow any walks and Girard (1-0) didn't commit any errors.
Gatta took the loss for McDonald (0-1).
Callie Jay had three RBIs, while Taylor Bell and Kylie Kulon each added two in the Girard victory.
Wednesday, Girard travels to Poland for a 5 p.m. game. The Bulldogs, which won the 2011 Division II state title, advanced to last year's D-II state semifinal.
SOUTH RANGE 5, SOCASTEE (S.C.) 1: MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - South Range starting pitcher Carly Derose didn't yield a hit in four innings against Socastee (S.C.).
Derose struck out seven and walked one in earning the win. She also scored two runs. Darrian Yanek provided most of the offense as she crushed a two-run homer to left-center field that ended up in the parking lot during the third inning. She finished with three RBIs. Morgan Renforth drove in two more for the Raiders (1-0). South Range plays Ryken (Md.) at 8 a.m. today.
GIRARD 10, McDONALD 6: GIRARD - Nick Krajcirik of Girard allowed one hit and zero runs over five innings, and Jim Standohar collected three hits and three RBIs in the Indians' non-conference victory over McDonald.
Krajcirik struck out seven and walked one in earning the victory. Standohar hit a two-run single in the second to put Girard up, 4-0. Kyle Harris also earned two hits, and Tyler Alejars doubled for the Indians (1-0).
Girard plays host to Salem at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Christian Rusinowski tagged two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for the Blue Devils (0-1). He took the loss, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out four and walking three.
