LEAVITTSBURG - Robert Allen Pownell Sr., 77, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at home in hospice care.
He was born Dec. 19, 1935, in Fairmont, W.Va., the son of Carlton Morrison and Ruth Hansford Morrison.
He was retired from ITT Grinnell, having worked as a millwright for 32 years, and also was employed at Dietrich Industries for 22 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.
Robert was an avid member of the Eagle Creek Conservation Club for more than 35 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and his dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Pansy Davis Pownell of Leavittsburg, whom he married on Dec. 12, 1960; son, Robert (Lori) Pownell Jr. of Leavittsburg; grandson, Kenneth (Sarah) Pownell of Kalamazoo, Mich.; granddaughter, Heather (Joseph) Reid of Top Sail, N.C.; sister, Jean Hinkle of Baltimore; brother, Philip Pownell of Elkins, W.Va.; brother, Jerry (Olive) Morrison of Parsons, W.Va.; brother, Terry (Wanda) Morrison of Wilmington, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Pownell.
Memorial services are to be held 1 p.m. April 13 at the Eagle Creek Conservation Club.
The family requests that material contributions be made to Hospice House in his memory.
