WARREN - John W. Rinda Sr., 93, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013, at his residence in Warren.
He was born Dec. 14, 1919, in Warren, the son of the late John Sanford Rinda and Hulda Tulene Johnson Rinda.
He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, and was employed at Republic Steel Annealing in Niles, for 42 years.
John was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Warren and was an avid bowler and golfer. John always liked and was proud to say "I'm 100 percent Finn." He enjoyed dancing with his longtime companion Alletta Sulonen.
John, his brothers Sanford and Robert served in the U.S. Army during World War II. John and Sanford with the 101st Airborne Division 327th Glider Borne Infantry. John received a Purple Heart at the Battle of the Bulge and three Bronze Stars for service in Normandy, Holland and Bastogne.
John's family would like to express their appreciation to the outstanding staff of Community Commons for their loving care and concern.
He is survived by his daughter Carol (Gary) Darr of Painesville; a son, John (Sandy) Rinda Jr. of Champion; a granddaughter, Cadence (Joshua) Hutchinson; a grandson, Gary Michael Darr; and a granddaughter Shari Suzanne (Bryan) Colburn; and three great-grandchildren, Alex and Lorelei Hutchinson and Trevor Colburn.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Rinda who passed away Sept. 6, 1973; three brothers, Sanford, Robert and Harlan; and one sister, Dorothy Rinda.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Pastor Dee Emmert will officiate.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home and also one hour prior to service time.
Interment will be in Niles City Cemetery, Niles, where military honors will be observed.
