Crews battle house
fire in Newton Falls
NEWTON FALLS - Firefighters from the Newton Falls Joint Fire District and from Braceville were called to a house fire at 227 Oak Knoll St. late Sunday afternoon.
Red Cross also was called to help the two adults and two teens at the home, according to the Trumbull County 911 Center. Crews were called at 4:30 p.m. and left at 5:35 p.m.
Husted in Warren
for Democracy Day
WARREN - Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted will visit John F. Kennedy High School in Warren today to participate in the school's Democracy Day celebration.
Democracy Day recognizes the 26th Amendment, which gives 18-year-olds the right to vote. Husted's visit is part of the Republican's effort to educate students on the importance of voting.
April 8 is the deadline to register to vote in the May 7 primary election. Individuals who will be 18 on or before Election Day are allowed to register to vote.
Sen. Brown to discuss
Democrat U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown will be in Boardman today to call for passage of the Fair Minimum Wage Act, legislation that would raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour in three steps.
Brown will join owners of the Yankee Kitchen at their Market Street restaurant to urge passage for the bill, which also would give a pay increase to tipped workers.
Minimum wage in the U.S. is $7.25 an hour. In Ohio, it is $7.85 an hour.
