WARREN - Willie James Dowell Sr., 75, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Born on April 8, 1937, in Opelika, Ala., he was the son of the late Janie Lee-Cole and Willie Roscoe Dowell Sr., and was the eighth of 10 children.
On June 1, 1957, he married the love of his life, Lorene Gore. They had three children. They were married for 55 years.

Mr. Dowell retired from Republic Steel after 30 years of service. He was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he served as an usher, on the kitchen ministry and worked as the church janitor for many years. He also served as a layman and a trustee with the Eastern Ohio Baptist Association.
Mr. Dowell was also a loving foster parent for Trumbull County Children Services for many years.
Mr. Dowell was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was loved by his nephews and nieces who affectionately called him "Uncle Little Will" and "Uncle Willie." He enjoyed sports, gardening and fishing. He was happiest when he was spending time with his family.
Loving memories of Willie will be carried on by his beloved wife, Lorene; his children, Virginia (James) West and Valeria (late Terry) Belser, both of Warren, and Willie Jr. (Anita) Dowell of North Ridgeville; and his brother, Andrew (Willie Ruth) Dowell of Opelika, Ala. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Tiara, Terri Lynn, Andrew, David and Michael; his great-grandson, Gavin; and his godchildren, Angela Newberg and Quwan Baker.
Mr. Dowell was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Willie Roscoe Dowell Jr., Brady Alexander Dowell and J.W. Dowell; and five sisters, Annie Lois Mitchell, Lillian Cook, Lee Ella Story, Katie Mirl White and Lucinda Crowder.
Funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday at Friendship Baptist Church, 1954 Brier St. S.E., Warren, with the Pastor Avan M. Odom officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the start of the service.
Interment will be in Pineview Cemetery in Niles.
