WARREN - John Sandor, 88, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013, of an aneurysm, with his family at his side at St. Joseph Health Center.
He was born Oct. 14, 1924, in McDonald, the son of the late Peter Sandor and the late Mary Nemitz .
He married Elizabeth "Betty" Reider Sandor on July 10, 1965.
He was employed as a furnace operator at Thomas Steel until his retirement in 1995. He also worked as a custodian at Van Huffel Steel.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, reaching the rank of corporal. He was stationed with the 145 Infantry Heavy Mortar Co.
John was a member of Glenn Christian Foundation Church. He enjoyed fishing, watching old western movies, especially John Wayne, listening to polka music and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth J. "Betty" Sandor of Warren; daughters, Karen Carpenter of Warren, Lori (Anthony) Valentine of Reno, Nev., Paula (Tim) Spacht of Warren and Tina (Kenny) Hansel of Mecca; sister, Katie Plotts of Warren; grandchildren, Christopher J. Sandor, Natalie (Jeff) Panko, Ashley Kawecki, Matthew Valentine, Adam Hansel, Alex Hansel and Morgan Hansel; and great-grandchild, Lucas A. Panko.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank Sandor and Peter Sandor; sister, Mary Alfrey; and a grandchild, Justin R. Kawecki.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where the Rev. Darrell White will officiate. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Meadow Brook Memorial Park in Warren.
