Authorities in Trumbull and Franklin counties today are waiting to see how soon a man police said was at the Sunset Lounge during a fatal shooting New Year's Day might return to Warren to answer questions about the matter.
Warren police said they are not treating Orlonzo Murry, 26, as a suspect in the Jan. 1 shooting but as a "person of interest" wanted on a separate firearms charge.
Police said that based on their investigation into the early morning shooting death of 25-year-old Cory Blackwell during a New Year's party they believe Murry was at the East Market Street club, which has since closed.
Municipal Court records show the warrant for Murry was issued Jan. 15. It lists a Bennett Avenue N.W. address for him. Murry, who was arrested about 2 a.m. Saturday in Columbus by U.S. Marshals, was wanted on a warrant on the charge of having a weapon in a liquor establishment the Sunset Lounge.
Police said they do not know why Murry was in Columbus and are not aware of any ties he has to that area.
The hearing scheduled for today will determine whether Murry is immediately returned to Warren, or stays in Columbus for a hearing before a magistrate there.
