BELOIT - The Stark County Coroner's office is investigating what caused the death of a 5-year-old Homeworth girl early Friday.
Coroner's Investigator Rick Walters said the girl's parents told him and sheriff's deputies she had been having flu-like symptoms 24 hours before her passing.
An autopsy was conducted that afternoon and Walters said they are waiting to see results of the lab work before releasing any findings.
The samples were rushed to a county laboratory and results indicating whether the death was illness-related should be made available by Monday, he said.
Results of other things required by law to be tested, such as drugs, will be available within four to six weeks.
Walters said there was no visible signs of injury or abuse on the body to indicate foul play.
"We are just taking it a scientific step at a time," he said.
The girl was a student at West Branch Elementary.
