Thu. 11:45am: Officials want answers on Turnpike plan

February 28, 2013

YOUNGSTOWN - Two Mahoning County office holders want answers on a bill in the statehouse to raise money for road projects.

Mahoning County Auditor Mike Sciortino and state Sen. Joe Schiavoni, D-Youngstown, each said they were skeptical of Gov. John Kasich's plan to raise $1.5 billion in Ohio Turnpike bonds for road projects throughout the state.

They both said they were leery because Kasich had said previously that the 90 percent of the money raised would go to projects in Northeast Ohio, but a version before the house Finance Committee did not mention that, Schiavoni said.

The two held a news conference today at Democratic Party headquarters in Boardman.
