WARREN - The steady trend of rebounding home sales continued locally according to statistics for January sales released Thursday.
The statistics, released by the Youngstown-Columbiana Area Realtor Association, which includes Trumbull County, showed a slight increase in Trumbull County home sales from 93 in January 2012 to 96 last month.
Neighboring Mahoning County saw a significant increase from 125 in January 2012 to 141 sold last month.
But even more notable is the continued increase in the median sale price in both counties and across the country.
Trumbull's median sale price from January jumped to $62,500 from $55,000 a year ago. Mahoning's median sale price jumped to $68,000 from $62,500 a year ago.
The president for the Ohio Association of Realtors, Howland Realtor Thomas J. Williams, on Thursday noted the upswing is evident statewide.
''We saw a 19 percent increase in sales over last year at this time,'' Williams said. He said home prices also increased statewide by 4.4 percent in January sales and 5.5 percent the previous month.
''So we are seeing appreciations of home values across the state,'' Williams said, noting 16 out of 20 local realtor association areas in Ohio reported sales increases this period.
