NORTH ROYALTON - William David Root, 93, formerly of Johnston, died at 1:49 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Seasons of Life Hospice in Parma.
He was born July 16, 1919, in Johnston, the son of the late Fred P. and Estella M. Hall Root.
William was a 1937 graduate of Johnston High School and retired from Republic Steel as a millwright.
Mr. Root was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Darrell) Bonner; two grandchildren, Cynthia (Fred) Blakeslee and David (Janeen) Bonner; three great-granddaughters, Madison, Julia and Savannah; a brother, Edgar (Ann) Root; a sister, Laurabelle Harshman; and two sisters-in-law, Grace and Norma Root.
Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, the former Gladys M. Kingdom, on March 8, 2000. They were united in marriage Dec. 5, 1942. Also preceding him were two brothers, Ivan and Lawrence Root, and a sister, Isabelle McAnlis.
Family and friends may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Roberts Clark Chapel, a Lane Family Funeral Home, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Steven Brown celebrating.
