MASURY - Bert E. Christy, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Hospice House in Poland following a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Sharon, Pa., the son of Bert H. and Grace Stevenson Christy.
Mr. Christy served as a private in the United States Army during World War II, where he was an expert with the M-1 Garand. For his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
Following his discharge, Bert would go on to operate as a self-employed truck driver for more than 40 years before his retirement.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge 55, American Legion Post 299, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the former Masury VFW Post 8860. He also had enjoyed photography and model airplanes.
He leaves behind his brother, L. David Christy of Hubbard; two nieces, Cindy (Rod) White and Tammy (Rich) Schmidt, both of Hubbard; and by his great-nephew and great-nieces, Zachary, Nicole, Kalyn and Abby.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Prowitt and Aurelia Bailey; and by a nephew, Bill Prowitt.
Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel, 6923 Warren Sharon Road, Brookfield, where funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Ray Linebaugh of Victory Christian Center officiating.
Burial will take place at Brookfield Township Cemetery.
