NEWTON FALLS - Catherine B. Selak of Newton Falls passed to eternal life on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, in Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Catherine was born Dec. 20, 1925, in Canton, the daughter of Frank and Eva Braun Cergle.
She obtained her formal education in the Palmyra School District, graduating from Palmyra High School.
While being employed by one of Akron's rubber factories, Catherine would meet her future husband traveling on her bus ride to work. His wink and his friendship led to their marriage after a three-year courtship. Catherine and Louis J. Selak were united in marriage on Jan. 3, 1948, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Newton Falls.
After the marriage, Catherine devoted her time and attention to her family. She was a loving wife and a nurturing, caring mother to their four children.
She was an active member of the Newton Falls Athletic Mothers when her sons were involved in their school sporting activities. Her favorite pastimes included tending to her flower garden, cooking and crocheting.
Catherine was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary and St. Joseph Parish in Newton Falls.
Treasured memories of Catherine will be carried on by the family she so loved, her children, Louis J. (Bonnie) Selak, Ronald F. (Carol) Selak, Jeanne M. (David J.) Isler and Michael Selak; her grandchildren, Ronald F. Selak Jr. and Stefanie (Brian) Ulrich; and her great-grandson, Austin W. Selak.
Preceding Catherine were her parents and her husband, Louis.
The family will meet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, where a service will follow at 11 a.m.
Catherine will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery in Paris Township.
