CENTERVILLE, Va. - Kathleen "Kathy" A. Jurkovic Vennitti, 68, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Feb. 10, 2013, at her home after a very courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Her family was with her during her final days.
Kathy was born Aug. 10, 1944, in Warren to Isadore and Bertha Jurkovic.
She was married to John A. Vennitti Jr. on June 6, 1964, at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church. She graduated from Howland High School in 1962.
After her start at East Ohio Gas in 1963, Kathy worked much of her life as a secretary / office manager, beginning in the Lakeview school district in 1972 at Bazetta Elementary and continuing then in the superintendent's office as the payroll clerk.
In 1990 she moved to Centerville to continue her career at the Central Intelligence Agency. During this time she also continued her education by receiving a general studies degree from Central Texas in 1996 and a human resources certificate from University of Virginia in 2002.
After 16 years of dedicated service, she retired from the Central Intelligence Agency in 2006 to enjoy her post-retirement career at GCI Inc. In 2010 she was forced to retire in order to deal with her cancer challenges.
She enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and family, walking (an avid five miles a day), working in the yard and traveling.
Kathy is survived by her husband, John A. Vennitti; son, Jeff (Pam) Vennitti of Waterford, Va.; daughter, Michele (Dave) Vlosich of Niles; granddaughters, Dominique of Niles and Corinne and Julianne of Waterford; and grandsons, David of Niles and Jonathan and Colin of Waterford. She will be missed terribly by her three brothers, Don (Anita) Jurkovic of Homosassa, Fla., Jim (fiancee Diane Drawl) Jurkovic of Howland and Pat (Jenny) Jurkovic of Stow.
Family and friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church, where there will be a Memorial Mass of the Resurrection at 2 p.m. with Rev. Thomas Eisweirth officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Coalition of Ovarian Cancer.
