Sanitary engineer lifts boil alert in Brookfield
A boil alert for areas in Brookfield and Hubbard townships was lifted Wednesday by the Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer's Department.
The alert was put into effect at 4 p.m. Monday for parts of Brookfield and Hubbard townships due to a water main break.
Murder suspect caught Wednesday in Akron
YOUNGSTOWN - A man accused in slaying early Tuesday morning was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Akron.
Police said Emmett Perkins IV, 25, was arrested without incident. He is wanted in the murder of 28-year-old Frank Whitted inside a West Princeton Avenue home about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Witnesses told police Perkins and Whitted were arguing before they heard a gunshot, and Perkins said he shot his uncle. He then ran out of the house.
He is expected to be arraigned in Municipal Court Friday.
Whitted's death is the second homicide in the city in 2013. In 2012, Youngstown recorded 26 homicides.
Couple indicted on workers' comp charge
WARREN - A Cortland couple that operate a pizza shop was charged in secret indictments with failing to maintain workers' compensation coverage for their business.
Angelo Pizzurro, 54, and his wife Deanna, 47, of Portal Drive, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to the fifth-degree felony charges. Angelo Pizzurro's case was assigned to Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Peter Kontos, and his wife's case was assigned to Judge Ronald Rice.
The Pizzurros operate Brothers Pizza on South High Street.
Secret indictments against them claim $6,679 was owed to the state fund for coverage between Jan. 1, 2007, and June 30, 2012.
Warren woman reports two gunmen take goods
WARREN - City police are investigating a reported aggravated burglary at a residence on Arnold Drive S.W. early Wednesday morning.
According to reports, Marlena Schotsch, 33, told police two men - one she knew and the other she did not - came to her residence around 1 a.m., produced a handgun and removed several items including a PlayStation III and controller, an XBox 360 and controller and a flat-screen TV.
No other information was available.
Wednesday stove fire damages Warren home
WARREN - An early-morning fire Wednesday caused about $25,000 in damage to a house at 2873 Clearwater St. N.W. and another $5,000 to items inside the home.
Fire Chief Ken Nussle said a fire that began on the kitchen stove got into the kitchen wall, but firefighters were able to stop it before it caused significant damage to the home's second floor. Most of the damage was contained to the kitchen, Nussle said.
A woman, her daughter and a relative were at home, but were not injured, the chief said.
Road project begins Saturday in Kinsman
KINSMAN - Webber Cole Road between state Route 7 and Kinsman Pymatuning Road will be closed starting Saturday through Feb. 23 for bridge repairs and upgrades.
The recommended detour is south on Kinsman Pymatuning Road and north on State Route 7.
