CHAMPION - Dennis Roy Baker, 23, died Friday morning, Feb. 8, 2013, in an automobile accident on state Route 5 in Newton Falls.
He was born on Oct. 4, 1989, in Warren, the son of Dennis Lee and Teresa Martin Baker.
He worked for General Motors Corp., Lordstown, and was a 2008 graduate of Champion High School, where he lettered in football and track, and was a member of Key Club as a peer tutor. He also attended Kent State University.
He loved hunting, camping, swimming, cooking, basketball, volleyball, football, getting together with friends and playing video games. He also enjoyed music, and professional and college sports, especially the Cleveland Cavs and Ohio State Buckeyes football.
Dennis was a people person, had a friendly, warm and inviting ready smile for everyone, and often hosted backyard get-togethers, inviting family and friends. His caring personality was exemplified by being an organ donor, and he also volunteered for church dinners.
Dennis' memory will be carried on by his parents, Dennis Lee and Teresa Baker; a sister, Kaylee Baker; grandparents, Robert and Carrie Baker, and Roy and Shirley Martin, all of Champion; four uncles; four aunts; eight cousins; as well as great-aunts and -uncles, and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Fred and Louise Rottman, Alma Shick, Irma and Arnold Martin, and Maggie and Emmer Workman.
Calling hours are from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at McFarland and Son Funeral Home, 271 N. Park Ave., Warren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Van Wye Room of the First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Park Ave., Warren, with calling hours one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Rick Oaks will be officiating the service for Dennis.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Champion Township Cemetery.
