Thu. 2:37pm: Agreement reached in Sunset case

February 7, 2013
Tribune Chronicle | TribToday.com

WARREN - Representatives of the former Sunset Lounge agreed to stipulate to three of five charges filed against the holder of its liquor license, so testimony was not given during a teleconference hearing scheduled for this afternoon.

Prior to the hearing, attorney Jim Sanders, representing the city, and Dennis DiMartino, representing Joseph Sankey, agreed to the charges of failure to notify the division of a change of ownership interest as well as a felon having an interest in a permit.

Two other charges were eliminated.

The felon in question is LaShawn Ziegler, who was found to have "hidden ownership" in the lounge, even though doing so is prohibited under Ohio law.

The attorneys will send the stipulated information to the state to be reviewed and wait for a ruling.

The East Market Street lounge has been under the microscope for the better part of a year after police were called there numerous times in 2012.

It was shuttered in early January following the New Year's Day shooting death of city man Cory Blackwell inside the club.
