SALT LAKE CITY - John Scott Elkin, 30, formerly of Cortland, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, in Salt Lake City.
He was born Feb. 21, 1982, in Warren, the son of Joseph Scott Elkin and Michelle Carillio Elkin.
John was a graduate of Maplewood High School and received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Kent State University. He was employed as a portfolio manager for Zions Bank in Salt Lake City for the past six years.
John loved the outdoors and had many hobbies. He enjoyed boulder rock climbing, skiing, hiking and cycling. He also enjoyed photography and loved animals. He was passionate about the preservation of wolves, especially those in Yellowstone National Park.
He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Michelle Elkin of Cortland; and by his sister, Melissa L. Elkin, also of Cortland. Also surviving are several grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cremation has taken place and private family services were held.
