SALUDA, N.C. - Margaret Jane Thomas Crabbe, 90, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living, Hendersonville, N.C., after a brief illness.
Born March 22, 1922, in Warren, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Thomas.
She was a 1941 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. She married Richard Dale Crabbe on Feb. 14, l942, and moved to Washington state while Rich was in the Army. When he went overseas, she moved in with her in-laws in Champion. After Rich was wounded in World War II, she moved to Battle Creek, Mich., to be with him while he recuperated in the Veterans Hospital.
They returned to Warren and had two daughters, Arlene (William) Klippel of Saluda, N.C., and Jacki (Ron) March of Brentwood, Tenn. She had two grandchildren, Christopher and Elizabeth of Brentwood, Tenn.
Margaret was a homemaker and also worked and retired from Studio of Printcraft in Champion. She was a former member of Disciples of Christ Church, Warren, and a member of Saluda United Methodist Church, Saluda. She was an honorary member of the Women's Club of Saluda and was an active participant at the Saluda Center.
Margaret and Rich traveled extensively through the U.S. and also visited her relatives in England, Wales and Scotland. After retiring, the two spent over 30 years wintering in Panama City Beach, Fla. They moved to Saluda in 1992.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rich; and two brothers, David Ralph Thomas and Frank Thomas.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Feb 16 at the Saluda United Methodist Church, Saluda, N.C., with the Rev. Rob Parsons officiating.
