WARREN - While local home sales slipped in December, numbers re-leased Tuesday indicate sales were up more than 6 percent for the year in Trumbull County.
Trumbull County homeowners sold 118 homes in December, down from the 129 sold in December 2011, according to statistics released by the Youngstown-Columbiana Association of Realtors, which includes Trumbull County.
Median sale price increased, though, in Trumbull County to $67,900 last month, well above median home selling price of $59,500 in December 2011.
For the entire year, Trumbull County numbers showed 1,649 homes were sold, up about 6 percent over 2011 numbers of 1,554.
Mahoning County December numbers improved to 173 homes sold compared to 159 sold in December 2011.
The Ohio Association of Realtors reports that statewide, December home sales rose for the 20th consecutive month compared to the results from the prior year.
''December was another solid month for the Ohio housing market, as the number of homes put into contract reached the highest level for the month since we began tracking pending sales five years ago," Thomas J. Williams of Howland, president of the Ohio Association of Realtors, said. "It's evident that the Ohio marketplace has made significant progress in not only overcoming the challenges that severely shook the foundation of the housing sector, but in establishing a more stable market going forward."
According to information released by the statewide organization, Ohio's December Pending Home Sales Index of 121.3, a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings, rose 9 percent from the December 2011 index score of 111.2.
A pending sale or a sale "under agreement" is when the buyer and seller agree on terms of the sale of a home and have a signed purchase and sale agreement, but have yet to close and be recorded.
