CLEVELAND -- A 59-year-old former Vienna funeral director charged with murdering his third wife is back in jail over suspicions of poisoning his fourth wife.
Girts had his bond revoked during an emergency hearing in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. He is accused of violating his probation by having contact with his present wife and moving from Poland to Ashtabula County without notifying authorities.
A Poland native, Girts' murder convictions were twice overturned in the death of his third wife, Diane Girts, who was poisoned 20 years ago when potassium cyanide was sprinkled on her pasta salad. Prosecutors in Cuyahoga County are preparing to retry Girts for a third time and previously asked a judge there to revoke the bond based on the claims of the fourth wife.
The fourth wife, Ruth Girts, said she fears her husband. Geneva-on-the-Lake police arrested Girts in November after his current wife locked him out of her home following an argument and he entered the home of her daughter.
More recently, Ruth Girts has claimed getting ill after Robert Girts began bringing her coffee to her workplace.
