WARREN - Area dancers are coming together to not only showcase their talents but to work together to help raise money for local children and adults battling serious health problems.
The 12th annual Dancing for Others will take place starting at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Packard Music Hall. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.
Patti Finelli, co-chairwoman of the event with Donna Crean, said the benefit was started originally after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to help raise money for the New York firefighters and their families.
''That first year we had seven dance studios involved and raised $7,000 which we took to New York City to help the firefighters,'' Finelli said.
She said the first year went so well it was decided to hold the event again and raise monies to help local people in need, such as children and adults battling life-threatening illnesses.
''It's for a good cause and has made a difference for many local families,'' she said.
Finelli described the event as a camaraderie among the dance studios with all the dancers showcasing their talents and abilities to help others.
She said five years ago the event raised $30,000.
''The event is packed. So many people turn out that we always tell them to arrive early for the parking,'' Finelli said. She estimates between 800 to 1,000 people have attended in past years.
This year 12 studios and dancing groups are participating and include Donna Crean D.C. Dancers, Patti Finelli School of Dance, Dynamic Dance, The Dance Space, Dance Dimensions, Jill's Danceshop, Studio 32 Dance Company, Natalie Dance Co., Jones Academy, Steppin Out Dance, Jo Marie's School of Dance, Gymnastic Center and Scope of Niles Tappers.
Finelli said all proceeds will help two adults and one child battling health problems, such as cancer.
Tickets are $5, available at the door. Call 330-539-6658 or 330-369-8344 for more information.
