Volunteers mark day of service

EVENTS PLANNED FOR NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE: There will be a National Day of Service on Saturday to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Volunteers across the country have organized events with the theme "Our People. Our Future." Local activities planned include a canned good collection site at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Bruda Center, 235 Highland Ave., with items received to be distributed to local food pantries; reading and working with children at the Learning Express Day Care in Warren and petition circulation for tighter gun control to be sent to Congress. A Chess is Life event, where children learn to play chess, will be held at 10 a.m. at the Eastwood Mall food court. Grace United Methodist Church in Warren will hold a canned food drive.
