MINERAL RIDGE - Velma Jane Jacob, 90, of Newton Falls, passed away peacefully into eternal life on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Vista Center at the Ridge in Mineral Ridge.
She was born on July 8, 1922, in the same house she currently lives in now in Newton Falls, the daughter of Clyde Bennett Jones and Elsie Edith Whitstone Jones.
Velma obtained her formal education from Newton Falls High, graduating in 1940.
Then Velma married the love of her life, Michael A. Jacob, on May 15, 1944, and he passed away after 63 years of wonderful marriage on Oct. 23, 2007.
She had lived and worked in Newton Falls as a self-employed beautician, owning Velma's Beauty Shop for 48 years, retiring in 1992.
She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Newton Falls, where she taught third-grade Sunday school for many years.
She was a member of the Antique Comb Club and past president of DeMolay Mothers Club.
Velma loved reading, collecting antiques, going to flea markets, early history and, most of all, her family and friends. She also was the historian for the classmates of Newton Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael; and one sister, Frances Stinchcomb.
Memories of Velma will be carried on by her loving family, her son, Terry (Debbie) Jacob of Lake Milton; her two grandchildren, Sheri Lynn (Brian) Beverage of North Ridgeville and Andrea Robinson of Las Vegas, Nev.; and her four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Charlie, Brian Beverage and Brandi Robinson.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The Rev. Calvin Mason will be officiating the service.
Velma will be laid to rest next to her husband, Michael, in Newton Falls Cemetery.
