Tue., 8:54am: Poland school board agrees to officer in buildings

January 15, 2013
Tribune Chronicle | TribToday.com

POLAND -- School board members in a northeast Ohio town have agreed to bolster security at their school buildings.

The (Youngtown) Vindicator reports (http://bit.ly/V1DRyi ) that the board of education in Poland moved to allow a police officer in all school buildings and spend up to $80,000 in district-wide security upgrades.

A full-time police officer will be dedicated to school security in the small town outside of Youngstown. An officer currently makes periodic checks at the high school.

The schools interim superintendent said securing building entrances and adding a police presence to schools were the primary recommendations from parent and staff security committees that were recently convened in each building.

The shootings at a Connecticut elementary school last month have increased discussions across the country regarding school safety.
