NEWTON FALLS - Thomas J. Banyas Sr., 72, of Newton Falls, entered into rest on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at the Cleveland Clinic with his family at his side.
On Sept. 20, 1940, in Homestead, Pa., Andrew John and Catherine T. Wall Banyas Jr. welcomed the birth of their son, Thomas.
Tom was a 1958 graduate of Munhall High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
On Jan. 13, 1962, in Munhall, Pa., Thomas Banyas Sr. and Lorraine Zivic were united into marriage, and from this union they had three children, Thomas Jr., Joseph and Amy.
He resided in Newton Falls for 42 years and was formerly of Pittsburgh.
Tom was employed as a maintenance welder at General Motors for 32 years, where he was also a union representative.
Thomas was a member of Believers Church, a lifetime member of AMVETS Post 112 and a member of VFW Post 3332.
Memories of Thomas will be carried on and cherished by his wife, Lorraine of Newton Falls; sons, Thomas (Rhonda) Banyas Jr. of Newton Falls and Joseph Banyas of Warren; daughter, Amy (Pete) Connelly of Warren; brother, Andrew John (Helen) Banyas III of Munhall, Pa.; and grandchildren, Nora, Joe, Thomas III and Joshua.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, James.
Friends may call from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Borowski Memorial Home, where services will be held at 6 p.m. Following the services, Newton Falls Veterans Organization will honor Thomas for his service to our country.
Thomas was a giving man in life and continued to do so by giving the gift of life by being a donor though Life Banc.
