SAN ANTONIO, Texas - John Andrew Chickerneo, 68, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, Dec. 29, 2012, at his home in San Antonio, Texas, from heart complications.
John was born Jan. 22, 1944, in Gary, Ind., the son of Andrew and Margaret McAleer Chickerneo.
He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding in 1962, and was an outstanding athlete in track (discus) and wrestling, but his greatest love and achievement was playing football. Captain of the team his senior year, he went on to play football for Otterbeine College on a scholarship.
He participated in Boys State in Columbus, taking an interest in politics, and loved a good debate.
John has a very successful roofing business for many years in San Antonio, and was a talented carpenter.
He was very proud of his son and daughter, loved his family and pet dogs. He was always ready to lend a hand and help others. John had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke.
He will be lovingly remembered by his twin children, Marquea of New York and Marques of Denver; sisters, Florence Ann (Tom) Smith of Cleveland, Linda (Jack Guarnieri) Chickerneo Palm of Warren, and Farrah Chickerneo of Houston.
His nieces, nephews, cousins and we will miss his jokes, his down-to-earth advice and fun, good nature.
John was predeceased by his parents.
A celebration of life dinner will be held at a later and warmer time in Warren.
Cremation is taking place at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in San Antonio.
