YOUNGSTOWN - Police are probing two shootings in different parts of town this weekend.

Police were called to St. Elizabeth Health Center about 12:40 a.m. Saturday, where Christopher Gordon, 23, of Dearborn Avenue told them he was shot after walking at Elm Street and Saranac Avenue on the North Side.

Reports state Gordon said he was walking when a man dressed in black stepped in his path and demanded money. When Gordon told the man he had no money, they began fighting.

At some point, the man pulled a gun and shot Gordon. Reports state Gordon had powder burns on his hand and a wound on his hand. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

Police went back to the crime scene but could find no evidence, reports state.

About 6:30 p.m. Friday on the East Side, 59-year-old William Hite Jr. was shot in the side and arm by someone from a passing car as he was walking down Shehy Street.

After Hite was shot, he ran into a nearby store, where 911 was called. Two witnesses reported hearing several shots and police found 9 spent .40-caliber shell casings as well as a spent round in the street.

Hite is also being treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
