YOUNGSTOWN - The police department's Internal Affairs Division said an officer who fired at the driver of a car who tried to run him over early Monday morning acted properly.

The report said that Officer Brad Ditullio acted within the department's use of force policy when he fired several shots at 39-year-old Jesse Cooper of West Ravenwood Avenue about 12:20 a.m. Monday during a traffic stop at Connecticut and North Richview Avenues on the North Side.

Cooper was hit once in the stomach and is being held under armed guard at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Ditullio is still recovering from his injuries and is not yet back to work.
