Thu., 10:43am: Kasich announces Turnpike plan

December 13, 2012
Tribune Chronicle |

Ohio Gov. John Kasich's administration will not sell or lease the turnpike, but some tolls will increase under a plan announced by the Republican this morning.

Kasich said said 90 percent of the revenue from the increased tolls will be redirected toward non-turnpike projects in northern Ohio under the control of the newly created Ohio Turnpike Infrastructure Commission under the Ohio Department of Transportation's umbrella.

The 241-mile toll road was previously under the control of the Ohio Turnpike Commission, which was outside the governor's control.

Kasich said he will freeze toll rates for 10 years for those who use the EZPass option on trips of 30 miles or less.
