Tue. 1:57pm: Man pleads in abduction case

December 11, 2012
Tribune Chronicle |

YOUNGSTOWN - A man who prosecutors say forced his ex-girlfriend to drive from Youngstown to Warren pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of abduction today before Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge Lou D'Apolito.

Jose Velazquez, 27, faces a prison term of two years when he is sentenced Jan. 23.

Assistant Prosecutor Nick Breveta said Velazquez tricked the woman into getting into her car on the campus of Youngstown State University on Oct. 30 and she managed to get out of the car in front of the Warren Police Department.

Officers there took her statement and then contacted police at YSU, who were able to arrest Velazquez after an investigation.
