AKRON - A second person has been convicted of the murder of a Youngstown State University student at an off-campus fraternity party in 2011.
Jamelle Jackson, 20, of West Boston Avenue, was convicted late Thursday morning by a jury in Summit County Common Pleas Court on a single count of murder and 10 counts of felonious assault.
He will be sentenced Thursday before Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge John Durkin. The trial was moved to Akron because of pretrial publicity generated in the trial of another man convicted in the case.
The sentencing will be in Mahoning County, a spokeswoman for Durkin said.
Killed in the shooting at the Indiana Avenue fraternity house on Feb. 6, 2011, was Jamail Jackson, 25. Eleven others were wounded.
Prosecutors and police have said the shooting happened after an argument on the dance floor when a drunken woman was jostled by one of the people who came to the party with Jackson.
Columbus Jones, 23, was sentenced to 92 years in prison in August after he was convicted of the same charges as Jackson. Prosecutors said Jones was the one who fired the gun used in the shooting.
His brother, Mark Jones, 21, pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter for his role in the crime in November and is awaiting sentencing. Prosecutors said he gave the gun used in the shooting to his brother.
Jackson also fired shots into the house, prosecutors have said.
Two other men have also pleaded guilty and the third has a preliminary hearing in his case Jan. 10.
