Richard L. McFalls 1950-2012

NILES - Niles Police Capt. Richard "Rick" L. McFalls, 62, died at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.

He was born April 18, 1950, in Sharon, Pa., the son of Martin T. and Beverly A. Jackson McFalls.

Rick graduated from McDonald High School in 1968, attended Slippery Rock State University and Youngstown State University, and graduated from the Police Academy in 1975.

Capt. McFalls began his service in law enforcement in Brookfield as a reserve and was hired in Niles as a patrolman on July 28, 1979. On Feb. 16, 1993, he was promoted to lieutenant, and later promoted to captain on Dec. 19, 2000.

He was a member of the Niles FOP Lodge 27, The Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, and enjoyed golfing and traveling.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Kathy Bzinak McFalls, whom he married Aug. 3, 1974, and his son, Jeff McFalls of Niles.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Douglas and Randall McFalls.

Friends may Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. until the time of the noon funeral service Monday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles, officiated by the Rev. James Walker. Niles FOP Lodge 27 will conduct a prayer service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
