Trumbull school successes praised

Schools, principals honored for excellence

CANFIELD - More than 100 area schools have been recognized for educational achievements, including 37 in Trumbull County.

The third-annual Excellence in Education - Celebrating our Schools luncheon was held Tuesday at the Mahoning Country Career and Technical Center in Canfield.

The awards banquet, hosted by Eastern Ohio P-16 Partnership, also honored more than 100 building principals throughout Trumbull, Mahoning, Ashtabula and Columbiana counties.

Three teachers recognized for their innovation in education included Thomas Gorse, Trumbull Career and Technical Center; Sarah Lowe, Beaver Local Middle School; and Kathy Bennett, Crestview Local School District.

Lowe was chosen for a special honor - Innovative Teacher of the Year - and received a classroom response unit from Turning Technologies. Bennett and Grimm each received computer tablets.

Schools from some districts were recognized for achieving Excellent or Excellent with Distinction on the Ohio Report Card, while others were recognized for moving up more than one level.

Bloomfield-Mespo Local, Bristol, Brookfield, Champion, Girard, Hubbard, Howland, Joseph Badger, Lakefield, LaBrae, Liberty, Lordstown, Maplewood, Mathews, McDonald, Newton Falls, Southington and Weathersfield were among the school districts honored during the luncheon.
