YOUNGSTOWN - City fire crews battled two fires Wednesday evening.
In a 3633 Neilson Ave. house on the East Side at 11:20 p.m. firefighters found Christmas trees and pine in the basement of the home, which had been vacant for several years.
An extra engine had to be called out to the scene because of heavy fire and other engines being tied up on other calls. Damage is listed at $12,350, a total loss.
Earlier in the evening, crews battled a fire at 195 W. Myrtle Ave. about 8:05 p.m. Crews searched for people inside after someone told them they heard screams, but no one was found. Three animals, however, were killed.
Reports state it appears fire started in two separate locations. Damage is listed at $6,710.
No one was injured in either blaze. Both fires are under investigation.
