Kiraly lifts Jackson-Milton

VIENNA - Paije Kiraly connected on a three-point play in the final minute of overtime to propel Jackson-Milton to a 58-57 victory over Mathews.

Kiraly's 17 points tied for the game-high. She also grabbed a game-best 13 rebounds to record a double-double. Tess Dickerson of Mathews (0-1) sent the game into overtime by sinking one of two free throws with 5.5 seconds remaining in regulation. The Bluejays (0-1) outscored Mathews, 5-4, in the final frame.

The Mustangs held a 21-8 lead in the first quarter and were up, 31-22, at halftime. They were aided by Dayna Ellis' team-leading 17 points. But Jackson-Milton slowly chipped its way back into the game, outscoring Mathews 16-12 in the third and 15-10 in the fourth.

The Bluejays' Becca Jones helped lead the comeback as she netted eight of her 14 points in the third quarter. She also snagged 12 rebounds for a double-double. Kiraly provided six points in the final period to close the gap.

Jacki Rhine earned a double-double for the Mustangs with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Dana Omerzo added nine points and nine assists.

MAPLEWOOD 55, JOHN F. KENNEDY 23: MECCA - Allison Bell recorded a game-high 16 points and was one of three players to score in double figures as Maplewood cruised past Kennedy.

Bell scored 10 of her 16 in the first half for Maplewood (1-0). Brooke Dawson provided 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while Miranda Sloan registered 10 points and team-best three assists for the Rockets.

Lauren Lee led Kennedy (0-2) with nine points.

LORDSTOWN 61, MINERAL RIDGE 24: MINERAL RIDGE - Sarah Cash accounted for the Red Devils' first 19 points and scored a game-high 33 in leading the Red Devils to a nonconference victory over Mineral Ridge.

Lordstown (1-0) outscored the Rams, 25-5, in the opening frame. Cash, a junior guard/forward who sank three 3-pointers, also scored nine points in the third quarter to help put the game out of reach. Lordstown plays PV on Thursday at home.

Adrianna Reese paced the Rams (1-0) with 10 points.

LIBERTY 53, McDONALD 34: McDONALD - Leah Leshnack scored 10 of her game-high 22 points in the first quarter as the Leopards rolled past the host Blue Devils.

Rachel Crum netted 13, while Kim Staples added 11 for Liberty (2-0).

Alyssa Streb led McDonald (0-2) with 15 points, while Tory Ross provided 12.

McDonald plays Windham on Thursday.

FITCH 63, MOONEY 37: AUSTINTOWN - Megan Sefcik had 11 of her game-high 27 points in the third quarter as the Falcons rolled past Mooney.

Brenda Thompson added 11 points for Fitch (1-0), while Aaliyah Sadler registered 10.

Jamie DiDomenico led Mooney (0-1) with 13 points.

Fitch is at Jefferson on Thursday.

BROOKFIELD 47, HUBBARD 31: HUBBARD - Brookfield used a 16-5 third quarter to defeat Hubbard.

Kayla Boyer led the Warriors with 13 points and Tori Thompson had 12.

Justine Goldner topped Hubbard with nine points.

BRISTOL 57, BADGER 36: BRISTOL - Allyson Jones scored 16 points and set a new school record with 30 rebounds to lead Bristol.

Laurin Elza added 10 points for the Panthers, while Logan led Badger with 18 points.

POLAND 52, EAST 27: POLAND - The Bulldogs outscored East 17-6 in the first quarter and 14-3 in the fourth.

Rachael Robertson led the Bulldogs with 18 points, while Aleah Hughes had 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Ashlyn Baker led East with 13 points.

LaBRAE 47, WINDHAM 43: WINDHAM - LaBrae broke a 26-26 halftime tie by outscoring Windham 13-7 in the third quarter in this non-conference battle.

Somer McCoy led the Vikings with 10 points and Sadie Sutton and Ashlee Stubbs each had nine.

Dari Heller paced Windham with 12 points and 12 rebounds and Morgan Schreiner scored nine.
