Warren to receive funds
for work at two parks
WARREN - The city plans to use federal funds to improve stone masonry walls, stairs and pavilions at Packard and Perkins parks.
Paul Makosky, director of engineering, planning and building, said the public has the opportunity to provide comments on the work.
He said the plans are to restore historic stone masonry walls by cleaning and tuck pointing, and reconstructing portions of failed or deteriorated walls and stairs.
There also will be grading, seeding and mulching as part of the project.

dog ate his toes
MECCA - Trumbull County Sheriff's Deputy Dario Poledica has answered his share of animal complaints over the past 15 years.
''But I've never seen anything like this anywhere. It's one in million,'' Poledica said after answering a call Tuesday morning at the home of Kenneth Hudnell, 41, 517 state Route 88.
Poledica said Hudnell is a paraplegic who is wheelchair-bound and stubbed his toe Monday night.
''He said his toe was bleeding a little when he went to bed,'' the deputy said.
When Hudnell woke up the next day, he was missing two of his toes on his left foot, according to reports.
Poledica said that while Hudnell was sleeping, his three-to-four-month-old boxer-Labrador mix ate the toes. Hudnell was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
County commissioners
hire attorney Misocky to fill in
WARREN - Trumbull County commissioners on Wednesday hired attorney James J. Misocky to help with duties in the office while clerk / interim administrator Paulette Godfrey recovers from surgery.
Misocky, long-time chief assistant in the county's prosecutor's office, will be paid 80 percent Godfrey's salary of $61,906. Misocky's hire is effective Monday.
County OKs sewer
merger and rate hike
WARREN - A proposal to merge some Howland customers of the county Sanitary Engineer's Office into another sewer district got commissioners' approval Wednesday.
Along with the move are higher rates for those customers who will become part of the Metropolitan Sewer District, the county's largest district.
Rates will increase from $4.17 per 1,000 gallons to $6.46 and then again in 2013 to $6.66 because of a rate adjustment program already in place for Metropolitan District users. In addition, the users merged from Howland will be charged a new monthly $2 sewer improvement fee, also already in place in the Metropolitan District.
Rates for water well users will increase from $25 a month to $38.78 and $39.94. The changes will be applied to bills due in January.
Public education
forum to be held
WARREN - "Failure is Not an Option," a public education forum, will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29 at First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Park Ave., Warren.
Warren Schools Superintendent Michael Notar will speak during the event along with other school officials.
The forum is being held by ACTION, Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods, to address education concerns of parents and guardians.
