LEAVITTSBURG -- A man trapped in a fire at his North Leavitt Road home on Thursday remained in critical condition at a Cleveland hospital this morning.

Louis Kawecki and his wife, Rita, both 60, were flown to Metro Health after a fire broke out at their house last Thursday, destroying the structure.

Rita Kawecki has been released from Metro Health, a hospital spokeswoman said today. However, there has been no change in Louis Kaweckis condition.

Officials said they believe the man had tried to get out of the house, at some point calling 911 from a cell phone, before collapsing. Firefighters found him unconscious inside the front door.

Two children at the house at the time were taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital, but were later released.

The state fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.
