REPORT CARD

November 18, 2012
By DANA SULONEN , Tribune Chronicle | dsulonen@TribToday.com

QUARTERBACK: A

Kurt Hess looked like the quarterback of September. He passed for 248 yards on 20 of 28 passing. His throws were tight and on the mark. There were a few he overthrew, but that doesn't take away from the game he had.

RUNNING BACKS: A

Jamaine Cook was his normal self, and won the battle of the running backs. He had 124 yards to lead the group that rushed for 146 yards on the game. This running back is going to be sorely missed next year.

RECEIVERS: A

Christian Bryan and Andrew Williams are two of the reason YSU's passing attack next year is going to be lethal. Bryan had five catches for 84 yards and Williams caught four for 91 and two touchdowns. The routes were clean and some of the catches were extraordinary.

OFFENSIVE LINE: A

Other than a 15-yard holding penalty, the line was the consistant stable unit it has come to be known as. However, this could have been the last game for four of the five starting linemen. YSU will miss this unit so much next season.

DEFENSIVE LINE: A

Holding one of the best running backs in the conference to 54 yards is the only stat that needs to be shown of how well the line played. The line stopped Bell at least three times on third-and-short, which were huge plays at the time.

LINEBACKERS: A

This is one game that I've actually been impressed with the linebackers. Travis Williams had two big pass breakups to go along with his six tackles. Counterpart Teven Williams added another six tackles and one breakup. This unit has extreme potential.

SECONDARY: A

Things have to be going well if the defensive backs get this grade. Two interceptions in the game (one by Jeremey Edwards and one by Julius Childs) doubled their total of the year. And for once, they didn't give up the big play.

COACHING: A

The play calling was smart, it never got stale or predictable and kept the Penguins on the field for 36 minutes. The best decision made was going for the two field goals early. Getting that early lead, even if it wasn't by the point total desired, kept the momentum alive for YSU.

SPECIAL TEAMS: A

Michael Wheary had a breakout game on special teams, giving YSU?its longest kick return of the season with a 56 yard return. Also, David Brown's two field goals were huge early in the game. Best performance by the special teams all season.
