Thu 1:01 p.m.: Campbell, Struthers, oppose consolidation

November 15, 2012
Tribune Chronicle |

Count Campbell and Struthers as opposed to any consolidation of the Mahoning County court system for lower courts.

City Councils in both cities recently passed resolutions against the effort and submitted them to Youngstown City Council.

Both cities have their own municipal courts that may be affected by consolidation and each weighed in saying they oppose any consolidation because of costs to construct a new facility to handle both courts in the eastern portion of the county.

State Sen. Bob Hagan, D-Youngstown, has been pushing consolidation as a way to cut costs.

Wednesday, the Mahoning County Bar Association recommended that the municipal court in Youngstown not replace a judge who recently retired. The Bar Association is also studying a consolidation of the county court system.
