‘Fill-A-Cruiser’ to help food bank

LIBERTY TO FILL CRUISER TO HELP FOOD BANK: The Liberty Police Department will be collecting non-perishable food items, personal care products and cash donations as part of "Fill-A-Cruiser" food drive from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Churchill Commons, 4700 Belmont Ave. All items will be given to Second Harvest Food Bank. Donations will also be accepted at the police department for those unable to attend the event. Call 330-759-1315.

MARKET CONTINUES IN TOWNSHIP: The Howland Farm Market will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the gazebo area by the high school off East Market Street.

CENTER TO HOST WORKSHOP: The Youngstown Historical Center Archives / Library will host a workshop "Your Immigrant Ancestors" as part of the fall workshop series. The event will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, 151 W. Wood St., Youngstown. The program will look at the ethnic neighborhoods that shaped the Mahoning Valley and continue to do so decades later. Program presenters are Dr. Donna DeBalsio and Dr. Martha Pallante of Youngstown State University's History Department Cost is $10, with reservations at 330-941-1314.

PRAYER EVENT TO REMEMBER THOSE LOST: The Mahoning Valley Hope Center, 3217 Surrey Road, Warren, will host a special candlelight prayer, praise and worship service at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. The center is located one block south of St. Joseph Health Center on the corner of Eastland and Surrey. The service is for those who are lost to alcohol, drugs, violence, abuse, murder, or thoughts of suicide, as well as the family and friends of anyone affected by these bondages. JFK HOSTS DANCE EVENT: John F. Kennedy High School will host the second annual "Dancing with the Kennedy Stars" at 7 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds from the event will benefit the educational programming advanced ticket purchase is required at www.warrenjfk.com

DONATION MADE: Akron Children's Hospital will receive 500 books as part of the BOOK IT! Big Book Giveaway today. Local franchisee Hallrich Inc. was one of 20 winners nationwide and will donate 350 books to Akron Children's Akron campus and 150 books to Akron Children's Beeghly campus in Boardman. A donation will take place at 10 a.m. today with Akron Children's and Pizza Hut representatives at the Beeghly campus. The books will be given to patients receiving care at Akron Children's, as well distributed through the hospital's Reach Out and Read program.
