WARREN - The Tribune Chronicle has filled three editor positions, the newspaper announced.
Brenda Linert has been named business editor, Jim Wyko metro editor and Dana Sulonen sports editor.
''These appointments mean the Tribune Chronicle will continue to provide outstanding local coverage for Trumbull and Mahoning counties,'' Editor Frank Robinson said. ''I am confident that these three important positions have been filled by the most qualified candidates. They will serve the community well.''
Linert replaces former business editor Larry Ringler, who retired. She has worked at the newspaper since 1995, most recently as the metro editor for the past 11 years.
Prior to that appointment, she served as a reporter, covering beats and topics ranging from Trumbull County government, Niles, various townships and the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District, to the indictment of former congressman James Traficant.
Linert is the recipient of several Ohio Associated Press awards for reporting.
She previously worked as a news correspondent for her hometown newspaper, the Johnstown (Pa.) Tribune-Democrat, after earning her bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
She lives in Austintown with her husband, Ross, and children Anthony and Ross Jr.
Wyko replaces Linert. He served as assistant metro editor for the past five years and previously held positions on the Tribune Chronicle's copy editing desk.
Wyko received a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1998.
As metro editor, Wyko will oversee a staff of news reporters and correspondents who provide daily coverage for print and online stories.
While Wyko was serving as assistant metro editor, the news staff won many state journalism awards, including a general excellence award as one of the best newspapers in Ohio.
Wyko resides in Warren with his wife, Mary Beth.
Sulonen began her career at the Tribune Chronicle in 2004. Hired as an editorial assistant, she became a sports writer two years later. She has been serving as interim sports editor since July.
Sulonen is a 2003 graduate of Ohio University's prestigious E. W. Scripps School of Journalism.
She resides in Champion, where she was born and raised.
