QUARTERBACK: C
It wasn't a great day for Kurt Hess, though he has had worse this season. There were a few bad passes he made that better defenses would have picked off. He did have a touchdown to Nate Adams, which gave the Penguins the early lead.
RUNNING BACKS: A
Jamaine Cook rushed for 203 yards on 42 carries. That means that Cook carried the ball in more than half of YSU's total plays run. His best run of the day was a 28-yard run in which he made a nice cut to the right side and was able to find room.
RECEIVERS: B
There were a few drops that Christian Brian would like back, but overall the receivers did their job. Andrew Williams had the longest play of the day on a 31-yard catch, and Will Shaw had another productive day with 44 yards on three catches.
OFFENSIVE LINE: A
When a running back is able to rush for 200-plus yards and your quarterback isn't sacked, that's called a good day. Which this line needed considering the injuries that have been occuring in this unit.
DEFENSIVE LINE: A
Aronde Stanton is easily the defensive MVP for the season. There was one play in which he absolutely drilled through the Coyotes line to stop a play. He added another sack to his total as well. Nick DeKraker also continued his good play as of late.
LINEBACKERS: B
For the first time in a long time, I can remember a specific play the linebackers made. Teven Williams, who led the team with seven tackles, had a hard hit that actually was noticable in the first half.
SECONDARY: C
YSU got lucky that South Dakota's quarterback is still in the learning process, because many of his decisions made this unit look good. The Coyotes only had 85 passing yards, which is a credit to the secondary, but at the same time, USD didn't help themselves out much.
COACHING: B
For the win, they get extra points. However, there were some plays that were questionable, especially at the end of the first half. The halfback pass that was intercepted comes to mind. However, they rode the hot hand of Cook, so that was a smart decision.
SPECIAL TEAMS: D
This has now become the worst unit on the team. Christian Bryan fumbled, but recovered a punt. David Brown missed his first PAT of the season and a Brown field goal was blocked. The only reason this grade isn't lower is because the Penguins won.
